A Merchandiser or Senior Merchandiser is responsible for managing the product lifecycle, from sourcing and purchasing to sales and performance analysis. Their main objective is to ensure the right products are available at the right time, in the right quantities, and at the right prices to maximize sales and profitability. Here’s a breakdown of their key responsibilities:
1. Product Planning and Development
Market Research: Conduct market research to identify trends, customer preferences, and competitor activities.
Product Selection: Collaborate with design, buying, and sourcing teams to select and develop products that align with market trends and customer needs.
Cost Analysis: Ensure product costs are within budget and align with target margins.
2. Inventory Management
Stock Forecasting: Use historical data and forecasts to estimate product demand and plan stock levels.
Ordering and Reordering: Manage ordering schedules, ensuring timely reorders to prevent stockouts or overstock situations.
Warehouse Coordination: Coordinate with warehousing teams for smooth inventory flow and distribution.
3. Vendor and Supplier Relations
Sourcing and Negotiation: Source suppliers and negotiate terms, including pricing, lead times, and quality standards.
Supplier Performance: Monitor supplier performance, ensuring they meet quality and delivery expectations.
Compliance: Ensure products meet regulatory and quality compliance requirements.
