Responsibilities & Context

  • The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has selected a CARE Bangladesh-led consortium to implement the project titled 'Nature-Based Adaptation towards Prosperous and Adept Lives & Livelihoods in Bangladesh (NABAPALLAB). The project will be implemented in two Ecologically Critical Areas (ECAs): the Sundarbans and Hakaluki Haor. Consortium members include CNRS, Cordaid, C3ER-BRAC University, Dushtha Shasthya Kendra (DSK), Friendship, Humanity & Inclusion (HI), iDE, and Practical Action. This project is a key part of the Bangladesh-UK Accord on Climate Change and contributes to the adaptation goals of the FCDO’s Bangladesh Climate and Environment Programme (BCEP). The program will also help progress the Government of Bangladesh's (GoB) policies, including the National Adaptation Plan (NAP), Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), commitments to biodiversity conservation, and the ongoing 8th Five-Year Plan. It also contributes to the UK's commitment to International Climate Finance (ICF).
  • The Sundarbans mangrove forest and Hakaluki Haor wetland face environmental threats due to high anthropogenic pressures such as overharvesting, overfishing, pollution, and illegal logging, exacerbated by climate change. NABAPALLAB aims to engage communities that rely on biodiversity and natural resources to strengthen climate resilience, conserve biodiversity, and diversify and improve livelihoods through nature-based solutions (NbS) and locally led adaptation (LLA). This initiative will enhance the climate resilience of over 250,000 vulnerable households and focus on ecosystem-based protection and restoration across 5,000 km² in the Sundarbans (covering Bagerhat, Satkhira, and Khulna districts) and Hakaluki Haor (covering Maulvibazar and Sylhet districts).
  • To achieve the program’s goals, CARE and its partners will collaborate with various ministries, including the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Department of Forest, Department of Environment (DoE), Ministry of Land, Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Bangladesh Water Development Board, and Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) at the national, regional, and local levels, to implement appropriate NbS and LLA solutions for the Sundarbans and Hakaluki Haor ecosystems.
  • Position: Officer - Communication and Documentation
  • The Officer - Communication and Documentation will be based in Dhaka, directly reporting to the Chief of Party. The officer will be responsible for:
  • Designing and delivering FCDO's NABAPALLAB's Strategic Communication and Knowledge Management.
  • Developing content and documentation.
  • Managing social media and visibility efforts.
  • Coordinating and networking with stakeholders.
  • Monitoring the activities of consortium partners within the respective ECAs.
