Responsibilities & Context

  • Ensure accurate patient identification before blood collection, strictly adhering to hospital protocols.
  • Perform blood collection for various tests, following the correct order of draw (e.g., Blood Culture → Plain Tube → Coagulation Tube → Heparin Tube → Violet Tube → Fluoride Tube).
  • Use butterfly needles for blood collection from children and patients with thin veins, minimizing discomfort.
  • Select and use appropriate anticoagulants and blood collection tubes based on test requirements.
  • Conduct swab collections for Throat, Nasal, Eye, Ear, and Wound samples using correct techniques.
  • Instruct patients on proper mid-stream urine sample collection for laboratory analysis.
  • Handle and process Histopathology, Cytology, Culture, and Sensitivity specimens with care and precision.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including registering culture specimens and recording collection details (name, time, date) on request forms.
  • Keep workstations organized and stocked with necessary equipment (sterile cotton, alcohol swabs, iodine, band-aids, syringes, tubes, tourniquets, etc.).
  • Ensure a professional, courteous, and friendly demeanor when interacting with patients.
  • Adhere strictly to hospital SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and infection control protocols.
  • Work efficiently within assigned workstations, cabins, and wards, ensuring operational readiness at all times.
