A Quality Controller (QC) in the woven garments sector plays a crucial role in maintaining quality from raw material inspection to the final shipment. Their in-depth knowledge of fabrics, garment construction, and quality standards ensures brand integrity and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

1. Raw Material Inspection (Fabric & Trims)

• Fabric Inspection: Apply 4-Point or 10-Point system to detect weaving faults, holes, stains, shading, GSM discrepancies, bowing, and skewing.

• Shrinkage Testing: Confirm fabric stability before cutting.

• Shade Banding: Manage shade lots to prevent color mismatches.

• Trims Check: Inspect zippers, buttons, and labels for defects, functionality, and color accuracy.

• Quantity Verification: Cross-reference with the Bill of Materials (BOM).

2. Cutting Section QC

• Marker & Pattern Accuracy: Verify correct layout, grainline direction, and shade grouping.

• Spreading Control: Ensure even tension, proper ply alignment, and mark visible defects before cutting.

• Cut Panel Inspection: Confirm precision in cuts, notches, and completeness of garment parts.

3. Sewing Section QC

• Pre-Production Meeting (PPM): Understand buyer specifications and key construction details.

• Initial Production Check: Assess pilot garments for fit, measurements, and construction accuracy.

In-Line Inspection:

• Monitor stitch quality (SPI, seam strength, skipped stitches, puckering).

• Check seam alignment, measurement accuracy, label placement, and embroidery/print quality.

• Apply Traffic Light System for continuous quality monitoring.

• End-Line Inspection: Conduct final inspection for defects, appearance, and measurement accuracy before finishing.

4. Finishing & Packing QC

• Pressing/Spotting/Thread Trimming: Ensure clean garments without stains, shine, or loose threads.

• Folding & Packaging: Follow buyer guidelines for folding, poly bagging, and carton packing.

• Metal Detection: Detect and eliminate contaminants.

5. Final Inspection (AQL)

• AQL Sampling: Execute final random inspections using AQL 2.5/4.0 standards.

Defect Classification:

• Critical: Safety hazards

• Major: Functional or visual defects

• Minor: Small inconsistencies not affecting use

• Reporting: Record and communicate defect types and inspection outcomes to buyers and merchandisers.

6. Documentation & Quality Improvement

• Record Keeping: Maintain comprehensive inspection logs and reports.

• SOP Compliance: Ensure team follows standard quality procedures.

• Root Cause Analysis: Investigate defects and collaborate on corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

• Team Training: Educate QC staff and operators on updated best practices.
