Responsibilities & Context

  • Network Oversight: Continuously monitor network health, addressing connectivity, bandwidth, and security issues as they arise.
  • Server Administration: Oversee the operation of university servers, including those dedicated to web hosting, email, databases, and virtual environments.
  • Account Management: Manage faculty, staff, and student accounts, setting permissions and policies to ensure secure system access.
  • Security Management: Implement robust security measures to protect data and prevent unauthorized access, breaches, or leaks.
  • Data Backup & Recovery: Conduct regular data backups and develop recovery protocols to maintain continuity in case of loss or cyber threats.
  • Patch & Update Management: Regularly apply necessary updates to all systems, software, and applications to enhance security and performance.
  • Software Management: Install, update, and troubleshoot software applications, managing licenses for academic software, operating systems, and productivity tools.
  • Hardware Maintenance: Oversee hardware replacements and upgrades to ensure all equipment is functional and current.
  • Inventory Control: Maintain a detailed inventory of IT assets, including computers, servers, network devices, and peripherals.
  • Technical Assistance: Provide prompt support to faculty, staff, and students for IT-related issues involving software, hardware, and network connectivity.
  • IT Training: Facilitate training or create user guides for faculty and students on new systems, platforms, and technologies.
  • Help Desk Supervision: Manage help desk operations to ensure efficient resolution of technical inquiries and timely support response.
  • System Upgrades: Strategically plan and execute system upgrades in line with the university’s tech roadmap and financial resources.
  • Scalability Planning: Forecast future tech requirements for network growth, storage expansion, and server upgrades.
  • Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with vendors to procure IT resources, negotiate contracts, and ensure prompt delivery of equipment and services.
  • Policy Development: Establish and enforce policies governing the responsible use of university IT resources.
  • Compliance: Ensure IT systems adhere to relevant legal and regulatory standards, including data privacy and educational mandates.
  • Documentation & Audits: Keep detailed documentation of IT infrastructure, configurations, and policies for audit purposes and future reference.
  • Classroom and Lab Support: Provide IT support for academic spaces, managing multimedia systems, projectors, and lab computers.
  • Research Support: Assist research teams with access to technical resources like data storage, computing power, and specialized software.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Fulfill other duties as assigned by university administration.
