Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited

Dockyard and Engineering Works Ltd (DEW Ltd) is one of the oldest and most respected shipbuilding and engineering organizations in Bangladesh. Established in 1926 as Narayanganj Dockyard Limited, it was the first dockyard of its kind in the Indian subcontinent and has played a pioneering role in the country’s maritime and shipbuilding industry for nearly a century.

With Bangladesh being a riverine nation connected by hundreds of rivers, shipbuilding has remained an integral part of its industrial heritage. Over the decades, DEW Ltd has built a strong reputation for excellence in ship construction, marine engineering, vessel repair, and defense manufacturing. Following its transition under the management of the Bangladesh Navy in 2006, the dockyard has undergone extensive modernization, technological advancement, and operational expansion.
