Sirajganj Dairy

Sirajganj District is one of Bangladesh’s major dairy-producing regions, often called a key “milk‑shed” area. The district hosts around 33,000 dairy farms with over 1.5 million cattle, producing roughly 716,000 tonnes of milk annually. The local dairy market, including milk, ghee, and curd, is valued at over Tk 100 crore per year.

The region supports many small-scale farmers and women entrepreneurs engaged in dairy farming. While production is high, much of the milk is sold via local traders rather than organized processors, affecting income and market efficiency. Key challenges include cattle feed costs, infrastructure gaps, marketing access, and occasional milk adulteration issues.

Despite these challenges, Sirajganj presents strong opportunities for dairy farming, value-added products, and allied services. Its high production capacity and growing demand make it a vital area in Bangladesh’s dairy sector.
