Responsibilities & Context

Job Purpose

The RAISE Apprenticeship Program, part of a five-year joint initiative by the World Bank and PKSF, aims to empower underprivileged urban and peri-urban youth by enhancing their skills and improving access to dignified employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

The program offers a structured 6-month technical training to help disadvantaged youth gain practical skills that lead to sustainable livelihoods.

As an Employment Support Officer (ESO), your primary role is to support the successful transition of graduate apprentices into meaningful employment or self-employment. This includes offering ongoing career guidance, job placement assistance, and business development support to help them secure decent and lasting livelihoods.

You will work in close collaboration with apprentices, Master Craftspersons (MCPs), Partner Organizations (POs), and local businesses to ensure effective job matching and enterprise linkages aligned with market needs.


Key Responsibilities

a) Career Guidance and Preparation

  • Deliver individual and group counseling sessions during and after the apprenticeship period

  • Assist apprentices in setting career goals and mapping out action plans

  • Facilitate practical sessions on CV writing, interview techniques, workplace etiquette, etc.

  • Coordinate Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certifications where applicable

b) Employment and Entrepreneurship Support

  • Connect graduates with job opportunities or pathways to self-employment

  • Offer guidance on starting small businesses and connect apprentices to financial services and support organizations

  • Support apprentices and youth micro-entrepreneurs (YMEs) in developing business plans and acquiring financial literacy and basic business skills

c) Industry and Employer Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with local businesses and industry stakeholders

  • Coordinate recruitment drives, job fairs, and on-site interview events

d) Placement Tracking and Monitoring

  • Maintain accurate records of job placements and follow up on employment status and satisfaction

  • Update databases regularly and track career progression of apprentices

e) Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with MCPs, POs, local authorities, and other stakeholders to create an enabling environment for employment

f) Reporting and Documentation

  • Keep detailed records and prepare regular reports on progress

  • Document success stories and outcomes to showcase program impact


Additional Responsibilities

  • Support outreach and mobilization efforts, especially targeting marginalized groups (e.g., girls, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities)

  • Oversee apprentice enrollment, motivation, and ongoing mentoring

  • Facilitate access to entrepreneurship training, financing, and wider job market connections

  • Promote gender equality, social inclusion, and safeguarding principles across all activities

  • Assist in research initiatives, such as labor market assessments and tracer studies

  • Carry out any other project-related duties as assigned by management
