The Bangladesh Army is the land warfare branch and the largest component of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, entrusted with safeguarding the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. As a disciplined and professional force, the Army plays a vital role in national defense, disaster response, peacekeeping, and nation-building activities.
Established in 1971 during the Liberation War, the Bangladesh Army has evolved into a modern, well-equipped, and highly capable military organization. It operates under the Ministry of Defence and the command of the Chief of Army Staff (CAS), currently General Waker-Uz-Zaman. The Army’s primary missions include defending the nation from external threats, assisting civil authorities in times of emergency, and contributing to regional and international peace through active participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Headquartered in Dhaka Cantonment, the Army maintains a wide network of regiments, divisions, training centers, and specialized units across the country. In addition to combat readiness, the Bangladesh Army is also engaged in developmental activities, infrastructure support, and humanitarian missions—demonstrating its commitment to both security and service to the nation.
Driven by the core values of discipline, honor, integrity, and duty, the Bangladesh Army continues to strengthen its capabilities and uphold its motto:
“In War, In Peace, We are Everywhere for our Country.”
