Professor Mohammad Ibrahim Born in 1911 in Murshidabad, India. His contribution in the field of medicine in general and diabetes in particular has been nothing less than phenomenal. He was a great and successful physician, a gifted teacher, a talented organizer and a great reformer. He did his MBBS in (1938 ), MRCP in 1949, FCCP in 1950. Prof Ibrahim was the founder of the Diabetic Association of Pakistan (1956) and later of Bangladesh.
In 1957 he set up an out-patients clinic at Segun Bagicha, Dhaka, for the diabetic. Established (BIRDEM) at Shahbag, Dhaka, in 1980 where the out-patients centre of the Bangladesh Diabetic Association was shifted. For his out standing contribution BIRDEM was designated in 1982 as a 'WHO-Collaborating Centre for Developing Community- oriented Programs for Prevention and Control of Diabetes' - It is the first such centre in Asia.
Prof. Ibrahim always believed that an institution achieves its goal and EXCELLENCE not by bricks and mortars; nor by machine or metals but by their human resources and he spent all his life in developing talented human resources. His humility to his patients was legendary and most genuine. Deep empathy and compassion were characteristics of his dealing with his patients especially those who were poor and in pain.
