The Royal University of Dhaka (RUD) stands as an academic epicenter of excellence to the vision of its founder, Dr. Momtaz Begum(expired) and Dr HBM Iqbal, a dedicated philanthropist, tireless social worker and visionary leader. Established as a nonprofit and nonsectarian private university, RUD came into existence under the aegis of the Private University Act, 1992, of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
The university's journey was marked by milestones, with the University Grants Commission (UGC) providing its evaluation and approval for academic programs on a significant date, July 30, 2003. Subsequently, the Ministry of Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, granted its official approval on August 30, 2003.
RUD was founded with a noble mission - to provide high quality avenues for higher education and learning to individuals, public groups, and agencies of all nationalities, religions, races, and colors.
