The Institute for Environment and Development (IED) began its journey in the development sector in 1994. As a non-profit, non-political, and voluntary development organization, IED has established a strong presence over the past two decades. The organization is committed to driving social transformation and reshaping mindsets—particularly among women, the poor, disadvantaged, socially excluded, and vulnerable communities—through socio-economic, cultural, and political change.IED has made significant strides in key areas such as women’s empowerment, rights of ethnic and religious minorities, environmental development, and climate change adaptation. Over time, its mission and scope have expanded to include civic engagement, citizenship development, voter education, youth participation, and the promotion of good governance. As a catalyst for change, IED focuses on awareness building, community mobilization, capacity development, advocacy, campaigning, and policy lobbying. Its efforts are centered on promoting the rights and entitlements of marginalized groups including women, the poor, and ethnic and religious minorities. IED also actively collaborates with indigenous groups and organizations to promote cultural diversity and strengthen the nation’s social and cultural fabric.Currently, IED operates with a strong presence in eight districts across the country, working directly with communities to bring lasting, positive change.
